Women's bodies wrap themselves in bark as armour, intertwine with the body of the tree, and coalesce into a new being. For my work I borrow the motif of the protectors of the forest, dryads, from pagan mythology, as well as Daphne from Greek myths. For me, these mythological figures embody the archetype of feminine power. They combine an element of care, tenderness, creative power along with combativeness and courage.

I have noticed that across cultures the restriction of female sexuality is used as a tool and demonstration of power. Conservative systems tend to restrict women's rights along with expressions of eroticism and love. Is the feminine element so powerful that we fear it? In my reflections, I return to pagan religions, which in turn personified the creative power of nature, fertility, abundance, harvest, in the form of women. It is precisely these abilities that are linked to the element of eroticism and sexuality.
